Magazine Cover work
We were assigned the task of creating a magazine cover for our school Montsaye Academy.
First I researched school magazines from around the world to get an idea of what student magazine were to look like. Then I searched for interesting content I could involve in the creation of the contents page and articles to mention on the front cover. I also gathered a few students from our own school and asked them to give ideas on what they would want to read about if we had a real school magazine.
So as what most magazines have is a bold statement Masthead. I decided to use the colour blue as it is one of our schools four colours. The font I used is called Britannic Bold. This then created a bright bold masthead which will then catch peoples eyes. The masthead will go in front of the background so it is to the front of the magazine. For the colour scheme I used the four colours of our school red, yellow, blue and green. This then creates synergy with the magazine and the school
I then thought that what magazines have is a background picture of what their magazine is about. My magazine is for the whole school however this edition is for year 7s. So on the background picture is of one of our teachers helping year 7s with their work in our library. The picture has smiling students and teacher, the smiling students will intrigue the readers to pick up the magazine because it is people close to their age on the front cover. This shows the students that the school is a happy working safe environment.
I then picked another photo which we took which has a year 7 student and a sixth form student in. Both students are smiling while talking to each other. This then shows that even though the two students are in different years the sixth form student can help the young year 7 student. This shows that the sixth form students are kind and helpful towards the young year 7 students just starting at Montsaye Academy. This picture shows students that they can get to know people in different years as well as their own.
As the year 7 students are just starting at Montsaye I took a picture of the main entrance of the school. This then goes well with the caption on the front cover "Welcome to Montsaye". This then shows the warm welcome of the main entrance to the school. This shows students that there is a warm welcome when they enter the school.
After I added all of the pictures and the masthead, I then thought what else makes a magazine? So then I added sub headings telling the reader what main and interesting articles are in the magazine. The subheadings I included on the front page were "Welcome to Montsaye" , "Get to know your school house" and "Our school facilities". These are the main articles that are in the magazine these articles attract the attention of the reader. I coloured these subheadings in the school colours; red, yellow, blue and green. After I added the sub headings I added an auto shape in publisher then I added writing in the auto shape. This is to give the quote of writing a bold statement. The Writing that I entered was the edition of the magazine which is for year 7s, so what I wrote was "year 7 special edition". I also added a subtitle underneath the masthead. I coloured the text and highlighted it. the subtitle says " your life, your school, your education".
This is my finished Magazine cover:
I like that you explained why do you each things!
