Codes and Conventions

Codes and conventions:

Main image: Usually this takes up the whole of the front cover. Sometimes it may cover up the masthead, sometimes not. 

Masthead: This is what the magazine is called. It is the brand and will usually have a unique font. It may fill the width of the page at the top. Or may only cover up a small section of the left hand corner.

Streamline: This is the subheading which is under, or above the masthead.

Splash: This is the main story of the front page along side a headline and, or a photo.

Secondary lead: A preview of an article which is inside the magazine.

Spread: This is an article which covers more than one page.

Puff: This is a phrase or word which which attracts the reader.

Date: This is usually the date which the magazine was issued.

Colour Scheme: This is a few colours which are used throughout the magazine. They usually match the genre of music.

Bar Code: This is usually placed at the bottom right hand side of the magazine front cover.
