Photo Ideas

Photo Ideas - Female

Here are some photo ideas of what my photos of my female singer will look like.

Some are mid-shots, close ups, long shots. There are also some which have the models hands to frame their face. The is the type of thing I will consider.

First Character Ideas

Character ideas

Here are some character ideas for my pop magazine called IDOL:

Female singer: Louise
She is 17 years old. She is a singer who has been popular since she was 12. She found her fame from singing in her home town. She sang in her home town since she was 7 and she found her fame from someone finally recording her and uploading it when she was 12.

Male singer: Brandon
He is 21 years old. He is a singer with his brother Mitchell. They both started singing from when they were young. Brandon and Mitchell were born into a family of performers, some were dancers, some were singers but their whole family are talented.

Male singer: Mitchell
He is 18 years old. He is singer with his older brother. He started singing when he was young, the brothers performed with their family on stage when they put on shows around the UK.

People Who Publish Magazines

People who publish music magazines:

All types of magazines need publishers so they could help to bring the target audience, so they can sell their magazine.

One example is The Music Magazine Publishers Association (MMPA). This is a membership organisation which was established in 1996. This publishing association is for serving musicians and music enthusiasts. The MMPA has two main purposes which are to help encourage positive perceptions and the acceptance of musician-oriented magazines throughout all parts of the music products industry. It also is the most efficient, cost effective distribution of the sale of music magazines.

Another example is Rhinegold Publishing. It is one of the UK's leading publishers for music and performing arts. They produce specialist magazines, number directories, guides and many other topics.

Font Types

Font types

Here are some different font types. The one which I think looks the best is the font Urban Jungle.
So I will use this font for my magazine name. This font is front: fontspace.com

Masthead Examples

Masthead Examples

Here are some examples of mastheads that I found. These are from magazines that are being sold around the world.

These mastheads will give me an idea of what my masthead will be like.

I will have to chose the font, colour and the placing. Whether to have it across the top or more to the side. I will have to decide this later on, maybe when I have took and have chosen a picture for my front cover.

Magazine Name

Magazine name: Final choice

All of the names that the people have given are really good names for pop magazines. Some names have play on words, some have a simple ring to them also some can be for any type of genre, they art really specific. However all the names given are really well thought of.

However I have thought of a name for the magazine which is: Idol

I think this is a good name because it seems more grown up for teenagers rather than have a childish name, also many girls look up to pop stars. For most teenagers pop stars are their idols so the name links well with that.

Here are the names that I received from people who answered the questionnaire:

So for my magazine the name will be IDOL.

Questionnaire Results Total

Questionnaire results: Total

After I added the results up collectively in the years and now I have added them up as overall results. I can now chose the things to add in.

This is my slide show presentation of my results:

Questionnaire Results Year 12

Questionnaire results: Year 12

I asked a few of the girls in my media class to do my questionnaire. I then added all the results and came up with a year 12 results sheet.

A very interesting point they have said is to include free items, because some people like free items in magazine more than magazines that don't include free items. Sometimes people are more inclined to buy them. Also another good point is to include a poster, because some artists have posters and some don't and its hard to find some, so this will also help sell the magazine.

Here are the year 12 results:

Questionnaire Results Year 10

Questionnaire results: Year10

I gave the questionnaire to a year 10 class, the girls answered the questionnaire to help me figure out what to include in my magazine. After I collected the questionnaire in, I then added up the results and came up with collective year 10 results.

One of the names that stuck out to me the most was Lollipop which two girls chose. The name stuck out because it has a double meaning meaning a sweet and has the word pop in which is the genre of magazine. Another good point is the artist disagreements, this is good because some artists have feuds which sometimes may be covered in the news. So many people will want to know the inside gossip.

Here are the results:

Questionnaire Results Year 8

Questionnaire Results:Year 8

This is the results form a year 8 class, the girls took the questionnaire and handed it back to me. I then added up their results

Some of the points I like a lot was one of the names the year 8s gave which was "Gucci Girl" I quite like the sound of the name, also Gucci is a brand of clothing and perfume. Other good points was to include a quiz and nail art tips, these of which I hadn't thought of.

Here are the results:

Questionnaire Template

Questionnaire Template:

This is the questionnaire that i will hand out to girls in year 8's, year 10's and a few year 12's. I am only giving the questionnaire to girls because i have chosen to do a girls pop magazine. I will get a total for each of the years then i will add all of the results together then decide what i will add in my magazine.

Magazine Genre Choice

Magazine genre choice

I have looked at all of the genres that I chose. I have had a look at the genres of magazines. I have chosen the genre of pop.

I have chosen this genre because it is the most popular type of music. So there is a lot of research I can do. Which will be good for my magazine. There is also a good variety of pop magazines.

There is pop magazines which are for children and teenagers. So I will conduct a questionnaire for:

The audience age
Colour scheme
Type of artists featured in magazine
articles featured
and other features of the magazine

Magazine cover Genre ideas

Magazine Genre ideas

For our magazine work we have to first pick a genre of music. There are many which I would like pick but i have to only pick one.

I would like to choose from the genres of:

Pop
Electronic Dance Music (EDM)
House music

Here are a few examples of magazine covers of the genre of pop:

Top of the Pops, pop magazine has a very busy from cover. The masthead is bold, fills the width of the page and overlaps the picture. The colour scheme matches the colours of clothing that Selena is wearing. There are article titles shaped around the picture of Selena, however one article title covers up her arm. This helps fix the focus on Selena's face and shirt. There is also a few small photos, which show people who the band and artists are.

Here are some examples of Electronic Dance Magazine cover:

MixMag's front cover is very busy. It doesn't have a focus point on the picture, this is because the article titles overlap most of the picture and so you don't see all of the picture, however they avoided putting article titles near their heads. The colour scheme is also partially matching their outfits with the colour white. The colour scheme is bold even without bright colours, it contrasts with the colours of the background.

Here are some magazine covers of house music:

This magazine cover has a bold colour scheme which is red, black and yellow. The masthead is behind the picture, this then puts a focus point on the picture. The article titles are placed around her face putting a focus point on her face. However there is article titles covering her body so the focus point is her face.
